It's time, it's time! Class of 2011, we're looking for you! We are now accepting applications for 2011 senior spokes models. Our models receive free sessions, earn all kinds of cool stuff and of course, receive VIP treatment. For both of the past two years, we've had models place in a national contest (one won an amazing trip to strut the catwalk in a Vegas fashion show) as well as work as a model for other companies. Corporate images with a twist

Will wanted to do something special for his team this holiday season. He had the great idea to schedule a shoot that would create corporate head shots and group images inspired by the television series, Mad Men. I can't tell you how much fun I had photographing his awesome (and photogenic!) team. We shot the images at J. Blacks in downtown Austin in their gorgeous cork room. Thanks so much to the staff there for working with us, being patient and for being so accommodating. And special thanks once again to Alena from Uber Makeup- the images would not have been the same without her hard work. Will, you all look amazing! Give your team a special hello and thanks from me.

Thanksgiving weekend family sessions

We headed out to the Hartmans' field and then to Taylor for their holiday family photos. Their field is absolutely amazing! And I just loved their wardrobe choices- how could you not love a family dressed all in animal print? Thanks so much guys for a great shoot- I always have a blast with you!

And we only had to track down Dad Selman a few times from his treks to find old stuff. I'll never forget seeing him pop out of that old building's window- ha! :)

One day isn't long enough to say thanks

Thanksgiving- what a beautiful holiday! One day set aside for the sole purpose of taking time to realize how very blessed we all are. One day could never be enough time for me to really go thru my list of blessings. But here are a few big ones:

-I'm thankful for every little struggle, every misstep. They make me who I am.
-I'm thankful that I get to be an artist for a living.
-I'm thankful for the color of the ocean.
-I'm thankful for the crisp air outside.
-I'm thankful for my books.
-I'm thankful for bestest friends that are more like family with each passing day.
-I'm thankful for my family. (Just look at my mom and dad and baby bro below: aren't they the cutest?)
-I'm so very thankful that God loves little old me, even though I'm far from deserving.

This Thanksgiving day, why not try thinking of a new blessing every hour? What a list you'd have by the end of the day. Full of important things, really important things.On this very special Thursday , enjoy the fall, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends. Enjoy the start of the holiday season, enjoy pulling on that winter coat, enjoying laughing at old jokes. And for heaven's sake, whatever you do, enjoy the turkey, too!

When Camron and Alena told me their plan for a fashion-inspired shoot at the Domain, I couldn't help but think: what a fabulous idea! We had a great time striking some serious poses, perfecting the strut and properly showing off that Vuitton bag. You guys look amazing!

SPA model competition Finalist!

SPA, or Senior Portrait Artists, is an organization for professional photographers that keeps participating studios up to date with all the latest trends in high school senior photography. Every year, they have a model competition and choose 15 seniors from the world to participate in shoots by some of the best photographers in the country as well as to walk the catwalk at SPA's annual fashion show. Last year, we were thrilled to have our entry, Miss Holli Hartman, be one of those special 15. We are so excited this morning to have found out that Kamal Nassif, our entry this year, is one of the finalists. Winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to San Diego. VIP treatment of course! California Wedding Images

My trip to California was actually to help out a friend (that would be Viviana from the shoots I shared with you a few days ago) photograph her first wedding. I think we did a great job and she is well on her way to being a huge success! I stuck with the beautiful bride for most of the day- check out some of my images from before and after the ceremony. I'll be sure and let you know when Viviana's website is up and running so you can see her work.

California Shoots

I didn't get to post as much as I wanted to while I was gone so, I have some catching up to do! Of course, I had a camera in my hand most of the time. Here are a few of my faves from a couple shoots I did for my friend Viviana while staying with her in Palo Alto. We shot everywhere: in San Fran, at the beach in Monterey and in Palo Alto itself. Of course, I thoroughly enjoyed her doggies Matty and Kodi. Thanks, Vivi for an amazing time!

First california post- wicked fun!

As some of you know, I flew into San Fransisco last night. I will be co-shooting a wedding in a few days, taking in the sights and visiting a friend. What an amazing first day yesterday was! I got here (still in the morning, California time), hugged my friend, met the bride, saw the church, saw the mansion where the reception will be, and as a special surprise, got to see Wicked! What a beautiful show and great first day. Needless to say, I slept really well last night! I will be keeping you updated on my trip and all of my little adventures. If you need anything, shoot me an email or leave a voicemail as I will be checking in while I'm gone. Here's the playbill from last night- it has to be the most colorful and pretty show I've seen yet.

I had such a great time with Jordan, her sister Morgan and her mom. I knew Jordan and I would get along famously when I found out how important her heels are to her and that her favorite actress is Audrey Hepburn. She even went to Tiffany's in NYC in homage to the classic movie. Jealous! We had to dodge a few raindrops this past weekend but it was definitely worth it. Family photos are so important. They help us all to remember who we are, where we come from and what our greatest accomplishments in life really are. I think family portraits are especially important for high school seniors and their moms and dads. Family dynamics are going to change as young adults are leaving home for the first time and a photo that captures this transition will be a treasure for years to come. Silver Shadow Studios is participating in the National Charity Model Search to select “America’s Cutest Kid” and to raise funds for charity.

We’re looking for cute children ages 18 months to 14 years old to model for a portrait to be entered into the contest.

Models Search Special:
$20 entrance fee, $15 of which will be donated directly to NILMDTS. Includes a 30 minute model session and one image submitted to the national gallery.

Finalists will be determined by online votes. Anyone may vote. Each vote is $1, and all proceeds from votes benefit the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

Grand prize national winner will be determined from the 50 city finalists. Winners selected by photography and modeling industry experts.

If your child is selected the national winner, you’ll receive many prizes, including a $5,000 US Savings Bond and a Canon PowerShot G10 digital camera.

Wrestling Alligators

Did I ever tell you about the time we wrestled alligators on an engagement shoot? OK, you got me- we didn't wrestle them. But we did see four and Edith jumped about a mile in the air when I pointed one out to her a few inches from her foot. You see, Kia and Terry are way into conservation, actually Kia's degree is in line with that, and they were just dying to have their shoot in the Everglades. What is a scary, alligator-infested swamp to some people is a romantic hot spot to others. Anyway, Kia and Terry were absolutely amazing, funny and so very brave! (And not afraid to get in the water, I might add). Our best to you, guys!

Our Ribbon-Cutting

Hello, Stranger

It's been a while since our last post- much too long! But so much has been going on that we'll have plenty to tell you over the next few days.

I just want to take a moment to thank all of those of you who have expressed sympathy for me and my family for the loss of my grandfather. He was a very special person who gave his family so, so much. All of your prayers and kind words were very much appreciated by all of us.

While home with my family, I was able to capture some of the small things that had a place in Grandpa's life: his junk drawer, his watch, what he saw every night as he fell asleep. These tiny details that often just sit on a shelf, unnoticed by most of the world, have the power to effortlessly bring memories to mind that may have otherwise been forgotten.

In this new year, take a moment to look carefully around you and simply remember.

Fall!

I woke up yesterday, opened the back door and thought to myself, what is this? Could it be.. yes, I think it is- fall! So thrilled was I that I made a cup of coffee, opened all the windows and sat watching the sunrise and thinking thoughts of tiny ghosties and goblins, frosted pumpkins and turkeys. Fall not only brings crisp morning air, cozy evenings with friends and warm apple cider, but it brings also the promise of holiday cheer and the celebration of the greatest miracle of all time. I know, I know, the weather man says it won't last, we'll be back to hot Texas summer before long. But for now, I will drink my cappuccino, light my pumpkin candle and enjoy the open windows.

Derouen Family

We are so exited to present the Derouen Family. They are such a blast. We had such a wonderful time doing this session on Mother's Day. It was so much fun that we ended up shooting for about 2 hours. Our latest senior session was a blast. Matias, Morgan and Matt got to see what it feels like to be a celebrity on Guadalupe in downtown Austin. After getting used to the attention of passers-by and traffic, they were able to strike a pose like pros, letting their amazing personalities shine through in every image. Thanks, guys- you rock!

Sisters Photo Movie

Something that has had a great response from our customers recently has been our custom DVD movies. We create each movie, each frame, and choose every quote specifically for the client. We call them digital albums and so far, every family that has seen one can't say no. Clients can also choose to have multiple chapters in their DVD, as did the Ramirez-Feliciano family whose "Sisters" movie appears below. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!
